FDA Links 28 Deaths to Gardasil in 2008

FDA Records Indicate 28 Deaths in 2008 Related to HPV Vaccine
The 2008 FDA records indicate there were 28 deaths and 235 cases of permanent disability in young girls who received the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine, better known in advertisements as the Gardasil. Parents might consider this information when making vaccine decisions.

"Actually there have been 47 deaths in all, but they are apparently unsure about the cause of some of the deaths. The FDA documented 6,723 'adverse events' related to Gardasil in 2008, of which 1,061 were considered 'serious,' and 142 considered 'life threatening.'"

I find this to be very scary. Please arm yourself with information before allowing a doctor to give this to your child.

I didn't like the idea of this vaccine when it first came out. I don't feel that it is really protecting against a "life-threatening" disease. Yearly Paps are available to screen for cancer.

I've been through this all myself 10 years ago when it was discovered that I had precancerous cells on my cervix. The doctor cut out the bad cells and I haven't had any problems since then.

Our pediatrician and I chose to not give this to my daughters. She said we could wait and see since it was such a new vaccine. Since it's been out a few years, I was thinking about talking with our doctor about getting the vaccine during their next well-check this year if she felt it was safe. I don't think that I will allow any of my girls to have this vaccine!!!

For my family, I don't think this vaccine is the best choice. I am not anti-vaccines. I just don't want my daughter to be a guinea pig. If this vaccine is ever proven safe...then I will revisit the issue of vaccinating my daughters with it.

Curriculum Planning

I will be planning our 2009-2010 school year over the next couple weeks. I pretty much know what we will be using. I just need to go through everything, create lesson plans, and decide how I want to organize this school year.

Some things I'm looking at using this year are:

Bible
Tapestry of Grace Year 1
Teaching Textbook
Apologia Science
Latina Christiana
Rosetta Stone Spanish

I have a lot of little extras that I really want to get to this year. That's where I run into a problem. There is so much great stuff to use...to learn. How do I squeeze it all in without overwhelming all of us.

I already have so much on our shelves. I don't want to not use it.

To be completely honest...I use to be a curriculum junkie. My husband was my enabler. He supported my habit by allowing me so much freedom in our curriculum purchases. However, I am in recovery and have done really well this year. I haven't bought any new curriculum.

We're gonna use what we have and only buy what is absolutely necessary!

I'll keep ya posted on how well I do at that.

My Super-Human Neice

Isn't she just the cutest? That's my niece.

She had a tonsillectomy last Friday.

Did amazing through the whole thing. I swear she must be super-human because she never...not once...complained.

She stayed with us after her surgery... until Tuesday. We all thought that she'd be able to have a better recovery here at our house due to the fact that she has a little brother and sister at home who might not be the best at letting big sis get the rest she needed.

However...she did suffer a small setback once returning home. She started having bleeding in her throat early Wednesday morning. Late Wednesday night, the doctors decided that they needed to go back in and re-cauterize the area to stop the bleeding.

Once again...my super-human niece came out doing just fine!

This is her only 17 hrs after her second surgery.

I ask you...does this look like a child who has just undergone two surgeries in one week?

How To Get A Kid To Vacuum

I've discovered a way to get my kid to love vacuuming.

Wanna know how?

It only requires the purchase of a new...super-cool...vacuum.

This kid of mine has vacuumed the entire house everyday since my husband brought home this new vacuum last Friday.

I kid you not!

Look at that happy face!

I know it won't last long...but I'm lovin' it while it does!

Wonder if we can budget for another new vacuum when the novelty of this one wears off.

Hmmm...
